Music is emotion, and to feel emotion is to be alive. Though rare, we occasionally have an opportunity to see an artist with such a sense of true aural imagery and passion set in motion. Since his first club appearance in 2000, David Edward (a.k.a. “Sweet Charlie” at the time) quickly brought himself to the forefront of the breakbeat scene in South Florida by bringing a unique style and excitement to the turntables, by seamlessly mixing a diverse blend of funk, electro, progressive breaks, nu skool and club anthems into a landscape of crescendos and decrescendos that kept the dance floors packed and the club goes coming back for more.
Prior to leaving Florida, He recently finished a year long residency with Scratch-D and H-Bomb at Chill Nightclub in West Palm Beach, and has had the opportunity to perform with recording artists such as: Huda Hudia, Infinity, DJ X, James Wolfe, Exzakt, Storm and Johnny Dangerously, D:Fuse, and Ming and FS.
As every artists should to, time came for him to evolve, and he did in such a way to keep his devoted following seeking his new style of cutting edge electronic music, and being typecast to just one specific genre. Performing as David Edward, we have seen someone that is dually talented in such a way that the only thing surpassing his breakbeat mixing skills is his ability to mix some of the best progressive sounds in the southeast. With apparent and distinct influences from: Nick Warren, Sasha, Danny Howells, James Zabiela, Dave Seaman, and Sander KK, he has the ability to twist and contort the sounds of progressive music from dark distant drums, to sexy and soulful house; from driving techno to brutal breakbeats.
His diverse musical background started at the early age of 8, when he began studying the piano, classical percussion and drums. Since then he has established a career not just as a DJ, but also as a performer and educator in the classical and jazz music fields. His musical experiences have also led to an accomplished career as a drummer and recording artist, allowing multiple Bi-Coastal US tours.
Only three months after he began spinning records he was booked to perform at Orbit Nightclub with Simply Jeff and Resident Alien. From that time on, he has performed at venues such as Club 5, Blue Martini, Emerald City, X-it Nightclub, Sonar, Deluxe, Le Cabaret, Player's, Respectable Street Café, and The Haven; as well as being showcased at the prestigious Palm Beach International Film Festival. He has held residencies at: Club 109, Ovation, Ohm, Ray's, Sky Lounge, and Spanky's.
David Edward is also the president of Modern Beat Productions, LLC, and Modern Beat Digital Records. He currently produces and performs live shows with the Modern Beat Orchestra, and runs his production company and record label, and markets music for multimedia, live productions and film.
